General Qualifications

  • At least 18 years of age (some exceptions may apply) and prefer a year of college or life experience.
  • Willingness and ability to work with people committed to living in a Christ-centered community.
  • Willingness to share your faith through conversation and action.
  • Willingness to work long and flexible hours.
  • Have an understanding of how to work with kids, especially ones that come from different backgrounds (People of color, different religions, adopted, low income, etc.)

General Responsibilities

  • Report to Program Director – follow tasks as assigned.

    • By helping lead devotions, songs, and plan worships.

    • Clean up after yourself, your campers, and others.

2021 Summer Staff Positions

Cabin Leader (10-15)
Cabin Leaders will work directly with campers on-site in all aspects of camp – including swimming, Challenge course, Arts and Crafts, Field games, etc. They will supervise, lead, and care for up to 10 campers, as well as stay in the cabin with them. Cabin leaders may also be asked to spend some weeks off-site with our Vacation Bible School program

Lifeguard (4)
Applicant must hold an approved lifeguard certification, with current CPR certification. Responsibilities include supervising campers while they swim in both the shallow and deep ends and enforcing waterfront rules. Cleaning of the waterfront and watercraft by daily removal of spider webs and seaweed. Maintaining and organizing the Boathouse – paddles, lifejackets, sand toys, and other materials. Report to Waterfront Coordinator.

Ropes Course Assistant (2)
Work with the Ropes Coordinator to help facilitate the high and low elements of our ropes course and 40’ climbing tower. Must have experience with low ropes and be willing to learn belaying and other skills for the tower and high ropes course.  Must be physically able to climb the tower and high ropes course. Ensure the safety of all participants and help Ropes Coordinator with rope takedown.

Weekend Staff (5)
Under the supervision of the Weekend Coordinator hours are Friday afternoon – Sunday Afternoon. Run our weekend youth programs, family camps, and help host on-site groups. Must be comfortable working with all ages in a variety of program roles – including arts and crafts, game leading, song learning, bible study, etc.

Summer Kitchen Specialist (3)
Responsible for assisting in all areas of foodservice, organizing pack out meals, and serving evening snack. No previous food service experience required. Report to the head chef for duties. Duties consist of prepping meals, dishes, cleaning, and others.

Waterfront Coordinator (1)
Prefer the applicant be at least 21 years old with 2 years of college or life experience. Applicant must hold an approved lifeguard certification, with current CPR certification. Guarding experience required. The waterfront coordinator is responsible for maintaining safety in all waterfront activities and overseeing waterfront staff. Helping with daily lifeguarding tasks including cleaning and organizing.

Arts & Crafts Manager (1)
The arts and crafts manager is responsible for creating, teaching, ordering, and coordinating arts and crafts for all campers. Having materials ready before cabin groups arrive and cleaning up after they leave. Having age-appropriate crafts ready for use. Keeping stock and ordering what is needed for general crafting – friendship bracelet string, scissors, construction paper, markers, glue, paint, etc. as well as any specialty crafts needed for the summer – tie-dye, clay, etc.

Media Manager (1)
The media manager is responsible for taking daily photos and uploading them to google photos and Bunk1. Notes sent on Bunk1 should be printed daily and handed to cabin leaders. Helping with social media posts, creating breakfast broadcasts, putting together worship slides, and creating the weekly recap video. Experience with movie editing, photography, and computers (PC or Mac) preferred. The use of own equipment is preferred, but photos taken are property of Lutherdale.

Ropes Course Manager (1)
Facilitate the high elements, low elements, and 40’ climbing tower with campers of all ages and abilities. Must have experience with the low ropes course and ability to learn belaying and other skills (like knot tying) for the tower and high course.  Must be physically able to climb the tower and high ropes course. The Ropes Course Manager is in charge of safety at all ropes elements and manages the rope usage log and organization and care of hardware and harnesses. The organization of high ropes materials and low ropes is essential. Oversees the Ropes Course Assistant.

On-Site Program Coordinator (2)
Prefer the applicant be at least 21 years old, 2 years of college, and camp or related experience. On-Site Program Coordinators are responsible for helping run summer programming along with the Program Director. They are responsible for day-to-day scheduling, keeping cabin leaders on schedule, creating and setting up All Camp Games, helping solve problems, occasionally supervising campers, and checking in with all staff to see if needs are met. They must have strong communication and leadership skills as they talk with campers, staff, and parents daily. Must be comfortable to work with all ages and must have a valid driver’s license. 

Health Care Coordinator (1)
Prefer the applicant be at least 21 years old with 2 years of college or life experience. CPR/First-aid training is required (Lutherdale can provide if needed). The Health Care Coordinator is responsible for providing medical help to all camp including cuts, stomach aches, etc. They also will dispense medication to campers that require it. The Health Care Coordinator should have organizational skills as they will keep records of all campers, medications dispensed, and any medical care that was administered.  

Weekend Coordinator (1)
Prefer the applicant be at least 21 years old, 2 years of college, and camp or related experience. Off-Site Program Coordinator (1)
Prefer the applicant be at least 21 years old, 2 years of college and camp or related experience. The Off-Site Program Coordinator is responsible for implementing Lutherdale’s Off-Site Vacation Bible School ministry and providing leadership and supervision of the VBS staff. Also responsible for leading Servant Adventure program. Must be comfortable to work with all ages and must have a valid driver’s license. 


What to expect:                                                                                       

  • Being a part of the Lutherdale staff is a major commitment. Summer starts with 2 weeks of paid staff training and runs for 9 consecutive weeks. You will be expected to work 6 days a week and Lutherdale will provide you with at least 24 hours off each week.  Contracts run from May 31- August 8.
  • More time off for special events should be communicated with the Program Director.
  • Applicants are welcome to apply for different roles for the summer.
  • Staff members are expected to abide by the code of ethics as written on the contract: conducting oneself in an exemplary manner adhering to high moral values both on and off camp.
  • Salaries start at $250/week plus room and board – paid bi-weekly.
  • Workers Compensations Insurance is provided as required by law.
