Silly For Jesus

July 24th, 2013
Abba Father,

I love my job. This week cabin leading has been a blast! We started out the week on Monday with Mission Monday, which consisted of our cabin sneaking to activities so no one saw us. We drew mustaches on our fingers as a disguise, so if someone were to spot us we would put our finger on our face and they would not recognize us. The ladies also hit the deck if someone was walking towards us, so that we would not be seen. God, there were so many missions that we were on, and every time we traveled to a new place the girls were so excited about their next mission. Tuesday then became Temporary Tatoosday, because the tattoos were the prizes for finishing the missions.

God, our week has been super eventful and today consisted of Wacky Wednesday. We woke up and did our hair and clothes all wacky. Some of us wore stuff backwards, or mismatched our clothes. Others put hair in weird buns or crazy braids. Some of us even put bottles in our hair so it stood straight up. The wackiness continued with random falling down and other wacky actions. God, I am so blessed to have a group of girls that are excited to do silly things.

The coolest part of my whole week is watching how the girls interact. I was nervous at the beginning because some of the girls came in knowing each other, and I feared that we would have a spilt cabin. But the exact opposite happened. Lord, I have watched these girls interact with each other and share with one another as if they all came in like friends. I have really enjoyed seeing the joy pour out of our cabin from the ladies. They laugh and share stories. Excitement for what is next is not something that is short in our cabin.

Message from Media

July 22nd, 2013
Today I woke up and began my day of getting ready for the campers that were going to be arriving later this afternoon for our 7th week of camp (AKA Week 1G). As a staff we use this language of week 1G to remind us that ever week is week 1 for the new set of campers, so that we are always committed to giving the campers just as awesome of a week as they would have if it were the first week of the summer!

As the Media Manager it is my responsibility to take pictures of the campers, update the Bunk1 postings so that parents/sponsors/pastors etc. can check in on their campers as the week unfurls, update our Social Media (Facebook/Twitter) and make an end of the week DVD for the campers to take home with them. As I walked around the camp during Check In & Registration snapping pictures, I couldn’t help but to notice the lively spirit that was about the staff and campers. Everyone was excited to get started with this new week of camp. Although there was a thunderstorm threatening to dampen our day, our spirits could not be doused! This is one of the things that I love most about being at camp. Everyone knows why they are here, and that is to minister to anyone that may come down our driveway here at Lutherdale.

Once the kids were introduced to the staff and the guidelines we made our way over to the dining hall where we had a delicious dinner! The line for seconds is always stacked with kids who can’t wait to get more of the awesome food that our kitchen staff provides. After dinner we went into some Village Time where the kids were able to come up with village names and cheers to show off to the rest of the camp. This week we have some pretty creative campers! These were presented at snack time right before we headed into worship.

Our opening worship this evening was fantastic. I usually sit at the front to operate the slide show for the worship. I was amazed at the volume from the campers who were singing songs at the top of their lungs which they had only learned a couple of hours before! The campers were totally engaged in the worship and I cannot wait to see what these guys and gals come up with when it is time for them to lead their own worships later on in the week!

Overall I would say that this was a fantastic start to an awesome week that I am sure is to come! We are having a great time here at Lutherdale Bible Camp and can’t wait to learn more about how we can find God in everything that we do. Is it time yet? Awww Yeah It is, God’s Time!

Once Was Lost

July 21st, 2013
Have you ever searched for something for so long that you figure you will just never find it?

On Monday July 8th we realized that one of our pigs had escaped from its pen. It had dug under the fence and was roaming around camp. We had a couple of sightings and even corralled it to the lake thinking it wouldn’t swim if it went in the water. Nope. That pig took like a fish to water and escaped our grasp!

We had staff and campers on the look out. We were on golf carts and had cross country runners on foot. People would walk into the office and think they were crazy reporting that they had seen a…pig?!? Neighbors to the north of us called one Thursday evening to say they had trapped it under their camper and we ran over. Somehow that smart little swine found a way to escape again and we had neighbors on foot, bicycle, and golf cart searching the neighborhood. We thought we had lost that pig for good. We figured we chased her too far from camp for her to find the way back.

On Friday July 19th our Program Director, David Box, spotted her in his back yard and the search efforts resumed. She went back into hiding until Saturday July 20th when our Health Care Manager, Matt, and Farm Manager, Tyler, chased her out from under a Yurt and caught her!!

The fun never stops at camp!
